Abstract effects in Photoshop.

This Photoshop training will show you how to add a pseudo abstract look to any image. It is very simple to do, and will give your image a whole new look. This is written for Photoshop, but should work in any image editing software that has a perspective tool.

Starting image

Step 1:

You start by making a rectangular selection that spans the image. Press Ctrl/Command + j to copy the selection in to a new layer. Next choose Edit > Transform > Perspective from the menu, and drag one of the nodes on any of the corners up or down to get the perspective you want.

Adding perspective

Step 2:

Next, you can apply some layer styling to the layer to make it a little different from the default image. I used Inner Shadow, and Inner Glow.

You may want to save or copy the style so you can easily apply it to each new layer.

The only thing left is to repeat the steps above until you are happy with the result. You can do vertical stripes in the same way.

Step 3:

I also duplicated the original image layer, set the blending mode to screen, and set the opacity to 50% to add a little more difference between the original, and the transformed layers.
