This tutorial will show you a great way to create chrome text. All of the effects are completely customizable by you so you can get it to look exactly how you want.

Create a new image or open an image you want to add your text to. Download the effects used in this tutorial.

1. For Step 2: Install the style by dragging the .asl file into the Photoshop workspace, or copy it into a folder of your choice, then load it from the fly out menu in the Photoshop styles palette.
2. For Step 3: Apply the curve by extracting the .acv file, and then loading it by clicking the load button in the curves dialog.
3. For Step 4: Apply the gradient map by extracting the .grd file, and loading it by clicking the load button in the gradient dialog.

Set the foreground color to 50% gray, and then use the text tool to type your text. Apply the style to the text by finding the newly installed style in the bottom of the style palette, and clicking it.

Select layer > new adjustment layer > curves from the menu. Apply the curve included in the zip file above, or you can create a custom curve similar to the one shown below if you prefer.



Set the blend mode to overlay, and the opacity to around 60%.

Select layer > new adjustment layer > gradient map from the menu. Apply the gradient map included in the zip file above, or edit the gradient manually by clicking the gradient drop down, and selecting the chrome gradient map preset.



Double click each of the color stop nodes that have color, and set the saturation to 0.





Set the blend mode to overlay, and the opacity to around 60%.

Select both of the newly created adjustment layers in the layers palette, and press ctrl/command + g on the keyboard to group them, then ctrl/command + click the text thumbnail to create a selection around the text. Choose select > feather from the menu, and set the radius to around 5, click OK, then click the add layer mask button at the bottom of the layers palette.

You can now customize the chrome effect by adjusting either of the adjustment layers, or making changes to the blending modes of the adjustment layers, or adjusting the text style. One example is creating a colored chrome or gold effect by simply double clicking the layer effects icon on the text layer, and then set the color of the inner glow, the color overlay, and the stroke sections to a golden color, or any other color you like.
